DJ SEEPS (Jessica Seepersaud)  - MARCH MIXES - RECORDED MARCH 2009

Inevitably this site is going to be recognised as a site where mixtapes are in abundance and come in all shapes and sizes and sounds - no matter how much we try to cover that up.

If we are going to bring you a specific genre of music  - we will only bring you the best and we managed to cop another one from our New York city lady - DJ SEEPS.

I'll let the sign do the talking on this one

WE'RE SORRY

We all have those moments, you know the ones where nothing seems to be going smooth especially when you want it to. Well we at NTS towers have just had one of them, which has led to a lack of fresh content on the site for the past few days.

We apologise - It won't happen again at least we hope.

Fresh content for Fresh people is what we say.

Thankfully things are back to normal again.

We might as well also use this as an opportunity to thank you all for the kind words and support we have recently received, it also looks like our newsletter went down well because we have recently just managed to secure some new contributors to the site.

Super

Anyway to make amends for the inconvenience caused we have uploaded a track for download titled I'm Sorry - just to show that we actually are sorry.

Enjoy

THE FUN BOY THREE - THE LUNATICS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE ASYLUM (7" SINGLE) FAITH HOPE AND CHARITY - 1981 (CHRYSALIS)

With all the issues we are currently having in the UK- political turmoil, unemployment, a new series of Big Brother; I have decided to create a new section that reminds us why this country was once and still is Great Britain - at least musically.

We start the series with the classic Fun Boy Three track - Faith, Hope and Charity one for you and one for me - a typical Fun Boy three track - jungle drums, choir singers and more jungle drums with a bit of the quirkiness from their days in The Specials

Can't fail with this one - A UK CLASSIC

FUNKY SUPERSTAR RECORDS (LAURENT MAGES) - GET FUNKY FRESH - MIX RECORDED (?????)

So we're back on familiar ground. Laurent of Funky superstar records keeps sending me free stuff for every record i buy from his store - brilliant customer service - because i keep going back. He sent me a random French 45 in one parcel, - the cynic in me thought 'if he's giving a free record it's going to be rubbish' - so i was pleasantly surprised when I liked the record.

The second time I bought a record from him he sent me this mix, my ego makes me believe that he made this mix especillay for me -  but my no-ego tells me he sent this to everyone else who bought from him, the latter makes more sense.

Anyho, I have decided to share this mix with all you NTS fans. Its full of Funk, Disco, Boogie, Electro and Soul just like the sign says - Believe the Hype - it's bad ass.

AVE BLASTE - ON THE HIGHWAY MIX - MARCH 09

A big one to the south London dj collective - KEEP UP and especially to AVE BLASTE of KEEP UP and legendary Drum 'n Bass label HOSPITAL RECORDS for sliding us this short and straight forward mix.

Straight to the point.

Ave Blaste or Zac  is a boogiehead from across the channel and his record prowess and knowledge has led to him playing alongside Herbaliser and an old favourite of mine - London Eleckricity, he is also a resident at Hospitality. He's now in production-featuring on the latest drop from the KEEP UP label - THE BEAT DISPENSER EP by the Paraguayan funk men - LOPEZ

keep an eye out for the brother.

Ave Blaste - on the highway mix :31 minutes and 26 seconds of pure eclectronic* joy.

MIDNIGHT FLYER - MAKIN TRACKS - JOEL RECORDS (77) - JACK CONRAD

Midnight Flyer- I kept thinking Where have I heard that name before, I kept racking my brain and opening every vault of musical knowledge I had to remember why that name was bugging me so much. Then it dawned on me it was the name of an Eagles track and but not the actual name of  a band, good thing to because I would be surprised if the Eagles had anything to do with this album, not saying the Eagles weren’t geniuses in their own rights  - but this album is different level.

To be totally honest I don’ know to much of the band the record was released in 1977 by a small obscure label – Joel Records and the album was produced by Jack Conrad who featured with the artists from this album on previous work, some of which were apparently floor fillers in the early 70’s. The album is not rare   - I know that because my album number is 10885 and I’ve seen a few copies about on the web  but they cost of a pretty penny.

It’s a blue eyed soul / fusion album, think Tower of Power and Little Feat. It’s up there with my personal favourites and I don’t’ think I would do it enough justice, so I’d rather you go out and get a copy and decide yourself – it will surely be in demand soon.

VIPERS (PRINCE OF SUSSEX) - MIX RECORDED CIRCA 2003-04

For those of you who thought NUTS TO SOUP was a site dedicated to boogie and disco music alone, you'll be glad to know that's not the case - for those of you that want to be the case, you should also be glad  - too much of anything is not a good thing, plus i would soon run out of boogie mixtapes to put up.

However too much of this mix can only be a good thing.

Vipers or Mr T as he's affectionately known recorded this as a gift for his current wifeman*- which if i remember was around the start of the new millenia-Till this day this mix is up there with some of my favourites. I must have listened to it possibly about 500 times and i still don't tire.

It's a bubbly cauldron of blues, country, folk and psychedelia - with a bit of rock 'n or' roll

WAVELENGTH (DAM-FUNK) - FUNK DREAMS/LIFE TURNS (7") - GLYDEZONE RECORDINGS (09)

This 7 has been out now for a while released by the man with the huge gust of wind in his sails - Dam Funk. The record is released under his alias Wavelength and unless you are familiar with his work or his actual name (Damon Riddick) you wont realise it is the work of the man himself - until you actually listen to it (listen to sound clip below) - which explains why the only a 1000 pressed haven't sold out yet.

G.B and The Tracks - My kind of Women/Dance to the music - Smash Disco (78)

Aptly, we move from a dance themed mixtape (if you hadn't figured it out) to an album titled Dance to the music. Gerry Bribosia who as far as I am concerned released probably one of the worst records I’ve ever heard – Dracula disco(see below) - released the album Dance to the music and the single above through the Canadian label Smash Disco in 1978 under the name G B and the Tracks a year after Dracula disco

I actually haven't got a copy of the album i do however have a copy of the single above with the albums self titled track on the B side and on the A side a tune that when I first heard took me on a journey of love and hate and which eventually led to a full blown love affair.

The track My kind of woman, doesn’t exactly typify the cheesy disco you could expect from that period, The first 30 or so seconds of electronic sounds don’t leave you guessing – you know you got a killah record on your hands – then it switches and Mr Bribosia rears his beautiful but annoying head In the form of his vocals, this pisses you off – well it pissed me off the first time I heard it – then after about 2 or 3 minutes of Gerry rambling on about a dancing woman – it switches again, its like the track started all over again but this time it goes on without the vocals and in those 3 minutes is when I fell in love with the track – it does switch again to G B singing but this time he sounds delicious.

ANDREW MORGAN

I feel priveleged and so should all of you who get the opportunity to listen to this. Andrew Morgan - Earcave - PPU - District Wax has blessed us with one of his "old" mixes - All the tracks have something in common

One mans old is another's man's NEW

Just to let you know i literally spend hours trawling through his record stores online, they're my homes away from home, i get this weird hunger for more as soon as i get off - only he can satisfy it - so i go back for. I know a few other record collectors in the UK that feel the same way.

I digress from the mix - i can only pick out 3 tracks i recognise, the rest of it is NEW to me.
